The BJP has lashed out at corporators for allocating unequal welfare funds. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has accused the Shiv Sena of manipulating votes during the election for the post of health committee chairperson.  The committee has a total of 36 members, of which 28 members participated in the voting.  Of the total members, 15 are from the Shiv Sena, 13 from the BJP, five from the Congress, two from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and one from the Samajwadi Party (SP).  At the time of the vote, the Congress had withdrawn its candidature and remained neutral.  SP and NCP members supported the Shiv Sena candidate.  But two Shiv Sena candidates did not attend.  Shiv Sena candidate Rajul Patel got 16 votes.  Meanwhile, two of the 13 BJP members were absent.  BJP candidate Bindu Trivedi got 11 votes.

But the BJP claimed that five Shiv Sena members had signed in the wrong column.  Their votes were disqualified and the final candidate received 11 votes for each candidate.  BJP group leader Prabhakar Shinde said the mayor supported the Shiv Sena candidate and declared him the winner despite the two candidates having equal votes.

He said that we had conducted a walkout and had written to the Election Commission.  At the same time, only one Shiv Sena candidate, not five, signed in the wrong column, said a senior municipal official who participated in the polls and the mayor's associate.  Only one vote was disqualified from the Shiv Sena, not five.

Officials said it was a clear victory for them.  “Meanwhile, Shiv Sena candidate Pratima Khopde was elected chairperson of the market and garden committee.
