Bajrang Dal workers protesting the naming of a sports complex in Malad after Tipu Sultan, the 18th-century ruler of Mysuru, were taken into prison by Mumbai Police on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Congress politician and Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying the saffron party "sent its goons to slander the country" today.

In the last 70 years, there has been no disagreement over Tipu Sultan's name; however, the BJP has dispatched its goons to slander the country and prevent it from developing by causing a ruckus about naming projects. We don't need to get into a nomenclature debate," says the author.

Atul Bhatkhalkar, a BJP MLA from Malad, had already stated his opposition to Tipu Sultan's sports facility being named after him.
According to Bhatkhalkar, "Hindutva, as practiced by the Shiv Sena, is false. They just talk about Hindutva for the sake of talking about it. It is well aware that Tipu Sultan's name was used to name Malad. We shall stage a dharna with our other BJP leaders to protest this inauguration. We will not allow this to happen, and if we gain control of the BMC, we will rename this ground after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj."

Aslam Sheikh, according to the BJP MLA, is the same individual who penned a letter in support of terrorist Yakub Memon, who was convicted in the 1993 Bombay explosions. "Shiv Sena's new face has become well-known among Mumbai residents. They're only doing it to stay in power. Aslam Sheikh is the same person who supported a terrorist named Yakub Memon by writing a letter "he stated. Meanwhile, Shriraj Nair, a spokesperson for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, claimed that the naming of the facility after Tipu Sultan was done to upset the city's calm.
