The opposition parties criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for pushing the "None Of The Above" (NOTA) option in the Andheri East Assembly by-polls here on Sunday, as the united Maha Vikas Aghadi nominee, Shiv Sena (UBTRutuja )'s Latke, sped towards victory. After the eleventh round of voting, Latke received over 42,000 votes, followed by the NOTAA option with just under 9,000 votes.
Arvind Sawant, MP and Chief spokesperson for Sena (UBT) referred to it as "crooked dirty politics" for reportedly paying voters to use the NOTA option and harm Latke's chances. "The Election Commission of India's (ECI) function is intriguing. Despite tapes showing the individuals accepting and providing payments for selecting NOTA, nothing was done. From the start of the election process till now, our candidate Latke has experienced harassment at every turn "Sawant spoke vehemently.
Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Gorhe, the Sena (UBT) politician and deputy leader of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, criticised the
BJP on this subject as well but predicted that Latke would receive about 60,000 votes given the present polling results. Even though Latke's triumph is almost certain, the official notification from the ECI is anticipated soon. The major contender, Latke is the widow of former lawmaker Ramesh Latke, whose passing in May prompted the November 3 by-elections. Latke ran under her party's new name and symbol, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), and the Flaming Torch with the full backing of MVA allies Sena (UBT), Nationalist Congress Party, and
Congress.
Although she had opposition from six other candidates, two local political parties, and four independents, it is anticipated that she will win with ease. After the BJP withdrew Murji Patel as a candidate and other parties such as the Balasahebanchi
Shiv Sena, led by chief minister Eknath Shinde, the Aam Aadmi Party, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, etc. did not field candidates, the election lost its political luster. An ex-employee of the BMC, Latke ran against the four independent candidates Farhan Syed, Neena Khedekar, Milind Kamble, and Rajesh Tripathi as well as Bala Nadar of the Aapki Apni Party and Manoj Kumar Nayak of the Right to Recall Party.
