Maharashtra: After Congress, MVA too states contesting upcoming civic polls separately
After many statements given by Congress President Nana Patole stating that the party would fight the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Zilla Parishad polls all alone, now Sharad Pawar led NCP too stated on Monday that though the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government comprises three parties, the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena but will fight the local elections alone.

“The Maha Vikas Aghadi government has three parties that are Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress and we are not in a mood to fight the elections independently. To keep the BJP out of power we will be deciding what next should be done after the results are out. Even if we contest the elections individually, the MVA will remain intact,” Nawab Malik said.

Depending on the local conditions the MVA coalition will be deciding on several districts and Municipal Corporations. “We can take the example of Kolhapur where I would not be surprised if I notice a triangular contest between the Sena, Congress and NCP, as the BJP does not exist there. Such is the situation in many corporations and Zilla Parishad,” further stated Malik.

A month ago, when Congress President Nana Patole stated that Congress will be contesting the upcoming elections individually he was criticized stating that there was no policy of the AICC and that he did not have the backing of the Congress high command, particularly Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The only person supporting Nana Patole was Congress President Bhai Jagtap who stated that the Congress Party is strong enough to contest the elections independently.
