According to a BJP MLA, some women wearing saffron scarves who went to a movie theatre in Maharashtra's Nashik to attend "The Kashmir Files" were requested to surrender the fabric before entering the grounds due to an "instruction from above." Devyani Pharande, an MLA from Nashik Central, raised the issue in the State Assembly, asking the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to clarify if such an order had been made.

"Some women went to watch 'The Kashmir Files.' They wore saffron scarves to help them recognize each other. The security personnel there demanded that the women deposit their scarves and attempted to seize them from those who refused. "They (the security guards) claimed they were acting on directions from on high," Pharande claimed.

The MLA sought action against security officers participating in the incident, asking why the MVA administration was "so unhappy" with the colour saffron. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab responded to the legislator by saying that state Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil would be informed about the situation right away.
