Shiv Sena mouthpiece, Saamana: Without insulting Rajiv Gandhi, Dhyan Chand could have been honoured
After the name change of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award which is the highest sporting honour to Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award the Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena attacked the BJP led Central Government alleging that the party is playing political games with revenge and malice.

"Without insulting the sacrifice made by Rajiv Gandhi, Major Dhyan Chand could have been honoured,” stated in the Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamna. In the mouthpiece, the Shiv Sena further pointed that already an award has been assigned with the name of the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

The Shiv Sena mouthpiece went on to state that at a time when the whole country is celebrating the golden moment in the field of sports, the Central Government plays a political game, due to which many hearts are hurt. It further stated that the previous government never forgot the role of Major Dhyan Chand but just erasing the name of Rajiv Gandhi who sacrificed himself for the country, cannot be considered a great honour for Major Dhyan Chand.

Attacking the central government further the mouthpiece stated “Now these questions are being raised that did Rajiv Gandhi in his entire life hold hockey stick? This question is valid but then one more question arises about the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad which was renamed after Narendra Modi, did he do anything in the field of cricket ever? Nowadays, the whole administration of sports is given in the hands of non-players, what should be considered a symptom of this?"
