As the MahaVikas Agadi government completes one year in power on November 28, the opposition BJP is focusing on ‘Mission Mumbai 2022’ with the aim of appointing a BJP mayor after the BMC elections.  The party, which is all set to contest the BMC elections only in 2022, is currently working on its team for the elections.

Mangal Prabha Lodha was retained as the city BJP president when Atul Bhatkalkar, a three-time MLA from Kandivali, was appointed in charge of the polls. Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis is leading the campaign.  The party aims to win an absolute majority on its own.  We will compete alone.

We will win more than 114 seats (halfway), ”Fadnavissaid.BJP president Chandrakant Patil added that Mumbai will have its first BJP mayor in 2022. BJP leaders said the party was now pursuing a two-pronged strategy to infiltrate the Sena's Marathi vote bank and consolidate North Indian and Gujarati votes.  Party MLAs Manoj Kotak, Sunil Rane and Yogesh Sagar and Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Praveen Darekar will be in the fray.

A person in the party said that Rs 1 lakh crore infrastructure projects for Mumbai, which were started during Fadnavis' rule, are expected among the people.  This will include Metro, Mumbai Trans Harbor Link and Coastal Road projects.  "The reforms implemented by Riya to check inflation and corruption in the real estate sector and highlight the affordable housing for the middle and lower middle class," the leader added.  Fadnavis said, “The politics of the BJP is focused on development.

Mumbaikars know what the BJP government has done for the city and 1.25 crore people in five years.  People will have to choose between development and Sena corruption provided by the BJP.  The BJP, which has 17 of the 36 MLAs in Mumbai, has the upper hand.  It will work to uproot the army from the BMC, ”said Bandra MLA Ashish Shelar.
