In the run up to BMC Elections 2017, Uddhav Thackeray has played the caste card.

He has expressed strong displeasure over growing restrictions on Hindu festivals. “The Hindus have to celebrate their festivals under severe constraints. This is grossly unfair,” Thackeray said. He was talking informally to mediapersons on Saturday.

The Shiv Sena chief’s displeasure has stemmed from the fact that SC has, in its recent order, barred those under 18 years of age from participating in Govinda and has capped the human pyramids at 20 ft.

The Sena, which looks forward to consolidate its vote bank during the Govinda-Ganpati festivals in view of the 2017 BMC polls, thinks that the apex court’s restrictions will dampen the enthusiasm of the grass root Shiv Sainiks in the festival season.
