Shiv Sena UBT Chief Uddhav Thackeray argued forcefully for the fixation of some criteria for the selection of people for the post of state governor amid raging controversy over Governor BS Koshyari's controversial remarks that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is an icon of earlier days. "A Governor is the President of India's representative, hence there should be qualifications for appointment to the position." Such rules must be established, he commanded.

Koshyari has been accused of insulting revered individuals like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and social reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule, according to Thackeray, who has already called for Koshyari's resignation. Furthermore, Thackeray stated that a State Minister (Mangal Prabhat Lodha) equated Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's miraculous escape from Agra to Eknath Shinde's 'betrayal' (rebellion in June that toppled the MVA government). He renewed his call for citizens to band together in opposition to those who denigrate the nation and its symbols. "We will reveal a schedule in the upcoming days. We don't want to confine ourselves to a Maharashtra bandh (shutdown)," the speaker continued.
