BMC approved Two projects worth Rs. 700 crore for 11 oxygen plants and underground tunnels in Mithi

Two projects which include setting up of oxygen plants in the city of Mumbai and construction of two tunnels below Mithi river have been approved by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) standing committee on Wednesday. The project has been approved to make sure that the river does not clog stated the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officer.

The proposal that has been passed by the standing committee states that oxygen plants will be coming at 10 locals which will be costing up to Rs 204 crore. The locations include Dahisar jumbo centre, BKC jumbo centre, etc. The decision that was taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the past where they awarded nine locations in the city where 16 plants were installed for installing oxygen plants. At the time of the second wave in the city, the demand went up to 235 metric tonnes in a day.

Considering this figure the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is making all the required arrangements beforehand, in case of third-wave hitting the city.  The second project of Rs 500 crores, for the construction of two tunnels, will help in preventing pollution in the Mithi river which wasn’t’ in a good condition for a very long time, facing sewage discharge and waste water from industries and slums along its bank.

Attacking the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Bharatiya Janata Party stated that the contract has been awarded without doing any calculations.  “On what basis is the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) coming up with so many oxygen plants. Of course, there is a need for oxygen plants, but they will have to answer several questions which are rising like how many plants are required and how much oxygen? Will the pressure work on the patients who are admitted to the ICU? The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) should answer all these questions and come out clear in this matter,” stated Vinod Mishra, a standing committee member from BJP
