The upcoming BMC elections are expected to be postponed over the OBC quota
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections which are scheduled for the next year, could be postponed if the ongoing issue of Other Backward Class (OBC) is not resolved. A meeting was held by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray with all the parties on Friday, 27 August 2021 but was not able to conclude anything.

All the parties demanded that the local polls to be held in 2022 should be postponed if the reservation is not granted in the specified time. Raj Thackeray who is the MNS president skipped the meeting. According to the sources, some parties differed on the gathering of empirical data, while some said the Centre should provide it, the BJP and others said the state can survey political backwardness.

A meeting will be taking place once again in the next week with the hope that the government will come with clarity on the points that have been raised by the SC verdict. “This is a decision from all the parties that the decision on contesting elections will only be taken after the decision of Other Backward Class (OBC) quota is resolved.

One more meeting will take place next week so that we arrive at a unanimous decision,” stated Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. “It will not at all be acceptable if someone states that the Other Backward Class (OBC) quota will not be provided to everyone as the verdicts of the SC states. The government should make new law on this,” stated former Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis.
