Shiv Sena’s Mouthpiece Saamna: Pegasus attack is adverse than Emergency
On Wednesday, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena government attacked the NDA government for ‘Pegasus’ spyware controversy, stating that the case of spying was done specifically on the four pillars of democracy that are the journalists, politicians, the judiciary, and bureaucracy.

In Saamna the Sena’s mouthpiece, it was claimed that spying with the help of the Pegasus spyware was a cyber-attack on selected Indians and it wouldn’t have been possible with the consent of the Centre.” Shiv Sena also requested the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the matter and hire an independent committee to investigate the issue in the interest of the nation. It was stated in Saamna that “Anniversary of imposition of Emergency by Indira Gandhi which is observed by some people every year also known as Black Day, but the cyber-attack which has taken place now is more dangerous than the Emergency.”

The Sena in the Editorial has asked that “an investigation should be conducted by the centre on this matter. So it is important to form a joint parliamentary committee and if the centre fails to do it then the SC should take suo motu awareness of the matter.”
The editorial further stated that by snooping there will be an attack on the right to freedom. “Home minister Amit Shah stated that spying by Pegasus was an international strategy to defame the country and its democracy. It’s a surprising statement. Can the Home Minister tell exactly who is defaming the country? If the government is led by you and the whole country and democracy are yours then why will anyone defame the country?”
