As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022 are approaching, preparations are being ramped up. Many speculations of Congress party going solo for the elections are being made. Congress leaders from Nana Patole to Rahul Gandhi expressed their points of going solo for the BMC elections 2022. A recent statement by the All-India Congress Committee In-charge of Maharashtra H K Patil on Friday stated that the decision of contesting the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 whether in alliance or individually will soon be taken at the local level.

Earlier, many statements from the president of Maharashtra Congress Nana Patole came about the Congress party going solo for the upcoming elections, after which the All India In-charge of Maharashtra H K Patil had to clarify the party’s further course of action.
After the 2019 polls, the Shiv Sena joined hands with the Congress party and then an alliance was formed where the Congress became a part of the Shiv Sena and NCP allying with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

When asked Patil about the Congress’s decision to go solo or in an alliance in the upcoming BMC elections 2022 he stated, “The decision of whether we are going to contest the upcoming BMC elections individually or with Shiv Sena will soon be taken at the local level, all such decisions will be taken in other parts of the state at the local level.” This statement of Patil came after a meeting of the Mumbai Congress was held.

Big cities are due for civic polls in early 2022 in Maharashtra which includes Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. India’s richest and largest civic body the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is currently ruled by Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena.
