Congress presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor stressed the need to regain the trust of the electorate on Sunday, saying he could function as a change catalyst for the grand old party to resurrect the party's influence in the nation. In addition, he gave the BJP some counsel, suggesting that it get ready to join the opposition before the general elections of 2024. The Congress MP added, "Our party needs change, and I feel I am the one who would be the catalyst of change," when speaking to reporters in Mumbai. "Congress has done a good job of running the country, and our party has experienced members. However, we still need to demonstrate our strength to win back voters. Party must be appealing to voters for them to trust us, and it must also exude confidence" Tharoor remarked.

The presidential candidate for Congress said that the BJP should begin planning for its membership in the opposition since it will have to do so after the 2024 elections. He continued by saying that he wanted to strengthen Congress in time for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "As our citizens are dissatisfied with the Modi administration, my goal is to strengthen the Congress party for the 2024 election. People want a strong opposition because there is a lot of hate speech, unemployment, and inflation. I want those who didn't vote for us to come to us since we only received 19% of the votes in 2014 and 2019. I hope people will research us" added he.

He added that he and Mallikarjun Kharge are friends and that the only thing separating them is how they approach their work. According to Tharoor, Kharge is not an official contender for party leader despite rumours to the contrary "Kharge is an official candidate, according to some, whereas I am not. However, I want to stress that the Gandhi family remains impartial and that no one is a declared candidate since we support the expansion of the Congress party. If someone claims that certain people are invited to cast votes by delegates, it is untrue." Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor are competing for the position of Congress President. On October 17, the Congress Presidential Election voting will take place, and the padayatra will stop for one day.
