SENA Gears up for 2022 BMC Election

Mumbai : In the last two weeks, half a dozen BJP leaders have joined the Sena .Though the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are a year away, the Shiv Sena has already started operations and is targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).  
Over the past two weeks, about half a dozen leaders from the BJP have defected to the Sena, which is likely to erode the Saffron Party’s chances in several pockets in Mumbai.On February 5, BJP leader Krishna Hegde, a former Congress MLA, joined Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Julie Shende.  Former Army MLA and former mayor Ramesh Prabhu's son-in-law Shri. Hegde is an important face to join the party.
  “I can proudly say that I am the face of an urban Mumbaikar. Sena is not new to me, but I was impressed by the way Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray handled the state amidst epidemics.  I have assured him that I will work to ensure that the saffron flag continues to be hoisted at the BMC headquarters, ”Hegde said.  The next day, three-time winner and former BJP MLA Hemendra Mehta from Borivali assembly constituency joined the corps with Mr Thackeray.  I have been working with the BJP since the time of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.  But the current BJP leadership is different.  I have no intention of working for it.  So I decided to join the army, ”Mehta said. 
 The Sena has been organizing various events to reach out to voters in the Gujarati community.  On January 10 this year, the party held its first event in Jogeshwari and on February 7, it held a community gathering in Malad.  The function was attended by Mehta and several Gujarati businessmen.  The BJP had replaced Mehta for a few years.  The army added him to its ranks.  The BJP has claimed victory in the elections.  
The Sena is trying to eliminate its potential by including disgruntled BJP leaders. On Monday, close friends of BJP MLA KalidasKolambakar from Wadala joined the army.  Former corporator Presila Kadam, BJP leader Anil Kadam and BJP's affiliated BEST union working president Vivek Gholap have also joined in Sena. Sena is a leading party in Mumbai.  We have started our preparations for the polls and the BJP is preparing for some more shocks, ”said an army minister who explained the party's voting strategy.
