Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the reconstruction of Patra Chawl in suburban Goregaon. A special court is expected to issue a ruling on Raut's request for bail on November 9. On Wednesday, special judge MG Deshpande said he will first issue a ruling about co-accused Pravin Raut's bail request before issuing the order. Judge Deshnapde responded to a question posed by ED attorney Ashish Chavan by saying, "It is your case that the percolation of the money is from there. As a result,

I am unable to decide on Sanjay Raut's bail until Pravin's case is resolved. Raut's judicial custody was further extended by the court authorised to hear cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) until November 9. In connection with a money laundering investigation involving the Patra Chawl reconstruction project in Goregaon, the ED detained Raut on August 1 of this year. He is currently being held in jail by the courts at Arthur Road.

According to the ED, he received Rs1.06 crore from Pravin Raut, one of his co-defendants. It claims that the sum is a portion of the Rs 112 crore in "proceeds of crime" (POC) that Pravin Raut allegedly earned through the project's unauthorised sale of floor space index (FSI). One of the company's directors, Pravin Raut, was involved in the project that was never completed.

Raut claimed that the ruling party just used him as a "victim of political change of power" and "abuse of criminal apparatus." Asserting that the case was not filed "out of malice or vendetta," the investigating agency had contested the bail plea and said that the man was completely complicit in the money laundering offence. The fraud allegedly involves Raut, his wife, and other partners in financial transactions relating to the reconstruction of the Patra Chawl. The 47-acre Patra Chawl is home to 672 tenant families.
