Sachin Ahir was appointed as the Mumbai party president of the Nationalist Congress party (NCP) on Saturday. This development comes ahead of the BMC Elections which is to be held in February 2017. Ahir, who is a resident of Mumbai is believed to play a very crucial role in the forthcoming BMC polls for the NCP.

The party also decided to appoint senior leader Nawab Mallik as Maharashtra’s state vice president of the NCP and chief spokesperson, party’s state unit president Sunil Tatkare announced Saturday.

Ahir said that the party will contest the BMC elections independently. He said that due to its 15 year long alliance with the Congress party , the NCP could not carve out an identity for itself among the voters and could not develop our own vote bank.

Tatkare said the office-bearers and executive committee of Mumbai NCP would be announced in a fortnight. Meanwhile, Madhav Bhandari was appointed as the chief spokesperson of Maharashtra by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
