A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been demanded by the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Bandra West MLA Ashish Shelar on Monday into the matter of Mumbai Coastal Road Projects, claiming monetary irregularities amounting to Rs 1,000 crore. While interacting with the media he stated that this scam took place between October 2018 and December 2018.
Asking the Shiv Sena Party about its participation in this matter of irregularities, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader stated that, “Did the scam had any involvements of the standing committee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), did the Shiv Sena also was involved in it? The name of the contractors will be revealed soon by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but before that, the Shiv Sena should make all the clarity, as it is the ruling party in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC),” stated Ashish Shelar.
Taking on Twitter, the BJP leader stated, “As there was lockdown in the city of Mumbai last year, lakhs and tonnes of stolen, filling material of poor quality was dumped in the Coastal Road Site and the Mumbaikars were defrauded.” Ashish Shelar further stated that he has already informed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner IS Chahal and has asked for an investigation against this issue.
Soon after these statements from BJP leader Ashish Shelar, pouring in, the Shiv Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande stated that the leader should share some proof before he alleges something like this. She further alleged that this was just a strategy of the opposition as the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022 approach. She further asked the BJP leader to question the BJP corporator too were part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) standing committee.
The Coastal Road Project amounting to Rs 12,000 crore is an under-construction eight land, a 22.2-kilometer freeway which would be connecting the Marine Lines to Kandivali. The Coast Road is predicted to be used by 1.30 lakh vehicles daily and is expected to reduce travel between Western Suburbs and South Mumbai from two hours to 40 minutes.
