While speaking to reporters about the Karnataka hijab debate, Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray remarked that schools and institutions should focus on education rather than religious or political problems. "In schools/colleges, when a uniform is required, it should be worn. At educational centres, only education should be the priority. It is not appropriate to bring religious or political matters to schools or institutions "He was reported to have said
The Hijab demonstrations began on February 4 at the Government Girls PU College in Udupi district, when some students claimed they were being denied access to classrooms. In numerous regions of Karnataka, protests have erupted. Following the demonstrations, all institutions under the Department of Higher Education and colleges under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE) in the state have declared a three-day holiday beginning February 9.
With this Renukacharya, a Karnataka
BJP MLA sparked a storm with his remarks about the hijab dispute in the state. Soon after Congress politician Priyanka Gandhi made a 'bikini-ghoonghat' remark in response to a Muslim student's hijab worry, Renukacharya stepped in to explain that specified uniforms are ideal in a learning environment and that the Congress woman's remark was 'provoking' in nature.
"Whether it is a bikini, a ghoonghat, a pair of trousers, or a hijab, it is a woman's right to pick what she wants to wear," Priyanka Gandhi tweeted earlier.
Renukacharya responded by writing in Kannada that rising rapes are linked to a woman's attire style. "The use of the word "bikini" was a cheap remark. It is preferable for students to be completely clothed, and in the prescribed uniforms." Later, he stated that the Congress leader's statement is provoking the girls who are disciplined and well-dressed.
