In a Bank fraud case, Mumbai Police issued a notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pravin Darekar, asking him to attend for questioning on Monday at 11 A.M. Darekar has been charged with a crime at the MRA Marg police station. The BJP leader had previously been summoned to appear before police for questioning on April 4.

Darekar's anticipatory bail motion in connection with a fake document in the Mumbai Bank Election case was denied on March 25 by the Mumbai Session court. Darekar, the head of the Maharashtra Legislative Council's opposition, is accused of falsifying paperwork in order to run in the Mumbai District Co-operative Society's labour quota elections.

The police had filed an FIR against him after receiving a complaint from Aam Aadmi Party leader Dhananjay Shinde, who claimed that he faked paperwork to join the Pratigya Labour Cooperative Society. Following a complaint from AAP leader Dhananjay Shinde, an FIR was filed on March 14 at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Police Station in Mumbai, claiming cheating and criminal conspiracy under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The temporary protection from arrest given to Darekar in the cheating case by a sessions court in the city was extended by two weeks by the Bombay High Court on March 29. After Darekar filed a plea in the HC seeking anticipatory bail in the case, a single bench presided over by Justice Anuja Prabhudessai extended the relief granted to him. On March 25, the Sessions Court denied his request for such bail, however, it had allowed him protection from arrest until March 29 so that he may seek relief from the HC.
