The various political parties have started assessing their corporators’ work, ahead of the BMC Polls 2017. Corporators from across parties too have submitted their report cards to respective party leaderships. Party leaders said the process helps parties decide on the candidates for the polls to be held early next year.

Shiv Sena’s Ajay Chaudhary says that their corporators’ submit report cards every year and not just before polls and that this year’s report cards were already submitted to the leadership.

The report cards list the issues taken up, projects or development works carried out in the wards and policy decisions, if any, among others.

Another Sena leader said the corporators’ performance was also being assessed through Sena shakhas. “The party takes feedback from the shakhas about the corporators’ work in their areas. Recently, the party president also visited the shakhas across the city to know about the corporators’ performance and party activists’ mood,” he said.

“The corporators’ assessment is also being carried out through party functionaries, surveys and feedback from office-bearers,” said a BJP functionary.

Another BJP leader said the party was also carrying out surveys in the wards to know the issues local residents were concerned about and the corporators’ work.

Sanjay Nirupam, president of Mumbai unit of the Congress, said the assessment of corporators helps to know about their works in the civic body. “We are assessing their performances through party office-bearers and feedback from the ground,” said Nirupam.
