Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator Sujata Pathak evicted more than 100 hawkers on both the sides of the roads and the BMC road department workers erected 4-feet long railings outside the eastern end of the Mulund railway station.

Pathak said “Areas around stations are already very crowded. On top of that, these hawkers encroach upon footpaths. Where will pedestrians walk? I have been fighting against illegal hawking from the last three years. On Friday, I had a meeting with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Ajoy Mehta and he permitted me to carry this eviction process today.”

However, the decision was not supported by other parties. Shiv Datta Dalwi, a Shiv Sena party spokesperson said, “We stand with the hawkers. They have been into hawking since the last 40 years. It is their only means of survival. If suddenly they are evacuated, then they should be given an alternative place for hawking.”
