Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday (June 3) announced the closure of the Covid-19 vaccination drive at centers run by the civil body and the state government because of the declining vaccine doses. The vaccination drive will resume on Saturday (June 4) as we expect to get vaccinated anytime on June 3, India’s richest municipal corporation said. There are a total of 342 active Covid-19 vaccination centers in Mumbai, of which 243 are managed by BMC and 20 by the state government. According to BMC, 33,74,261 people in Mumbai received the Covid-19 vaccine, including 49,833 doses.

BMC, meanwhile, claimed that nine suppliers had responded to the global tender for Covid-19 vaccines. Seven of these nine suppliers have expressed interest in being vaccinated against Sputnik V, but one of them has volunteered to administer the Sputnik light vaccine. However, the ninth supplier said they would like to provide any vaccine available from the manufacturers. Ten suppliers have responded to the globally announced interest rates on the supply of the Covid-19 preventive vaccine. Of these, the records of nine potential suppliers will be examined within the next 2-3 days, BMC said, adding that one supplier has already withdrawn.

In a statement. BJP group leader Prabhakar Shinde has expressed doubts about the distribution of the vaccine. Shinde said the distribution of the vaccine was not yet clear as none of these bidders had yet submitted a contract. There are 7,08,007 Covid-19 positive cases in Mumbai. Of these, 6,74,296 patients recovered by June 2. According to BMC figures, 14,938 Covid-19 deaths have been reported so far. There are currently only 16,587 active Covid-19 cases in Mumbai.
