NCP leader Nawab Malik was arrested in February on suspicion of money laundering. On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate opposed Malik's request for bail and referred to it as a "ploy" to conceal the fact that he had been out of custody for medical treatment for more than six weeks.

The ED added that Malik had requested temporary bail, which the court had partially approved on May 13 in exchange for him receiving treatment at a private hospital of his choosing. It stated that he had been ostensibly out of custody for more than six weeks for medical attention and referred to Malik's bail application as a "ploy" to conceal this. Further, it stated that it had no reliable information regarding his health status and that he had not provided any medical justifications.

As a result, if treatment in a private hospital was no longer necessary, it was possible that he might be jailed in order to facilitate an investigation. According to the anti-money laundering law, an amount of Rs. 55 lakhs was paid illegally for a Kurla property that was usurped, according to a witness statement that was cited in the report. Furthermore, it claimed that Malik had collaborated with Dawood gang members to usurp this land. According to the agency, Malik was in charge of the property through the company Solidus Investment, and his participation in the decision-making process was demonstrated by the fact that he attended several meetings.
