NCP leader Nawab Malik has responded to an application made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) before a special court, calling the plea "mischievous." The ED requested that a medical board of senior government doctors verify Malik's health status because he had been admitted to a private hospital for more than four months and was attempting to avoid going to jail.

In its submission, the ED stated that it lacked reliable details regarding Malik's condition. Malik emphasised in his submission to the court that the private Kurla hospital where he is receiving treatment is required to report on his health every week. Malik's reply continued by stating that the claim was untrue. The response provided a thorough summary of his health throughout the months after his hospital stay and stated that it is clear he has several illnesses, many of which are kidney-related.

His condition has gotten so bad that one of his kidneys is hardly working. Additional care should be made accessible at JJ hospital or another government hospital, as the ED had requested. Malik disagreed and stated that there was "no question" about it because he had not previously received sufficient care in JJ or the prison.

The statement stated that it is clear from the weekly reports  submitted by the private hospital that he has not yet healed, that his health is continuing to worsen, and that he has nearly lost all kidney function. Malik claimed that he must be kept away from crowded areas in a hygienic setting. It describes as a false allegation the claim that he is abusing the court's leniency and extending his care at a private hospital to avoid going to jail.
