MVA vs BJP? Everyone's eyes are on the BMC Elections in 2022

Even in spite of the fact that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election is still two years away, but we can already feel that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gearing up for the same. As the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government has completed its one year in the office on November 28, these “mini elections” will be a floor test for the three-party allies – Shiv Sena, Congress, and Patriot Congress Party (NCP). Additionally, the 2022 BMC surveys will also be considered as people’s reaction to the performance of the MVA government. However, according to the reports, it appears that the ruling partners of the MVA don’t appear to be on the same page about these elections.

 

When the MVA was formed to claim the power within the state last year after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it was collectively decided to battle all legislative Council  and local body  elections  together. Accordingly, Shiv Sena chief and Chief Serve Uddhav Thackeray had recently announced that all MVA partners will challenge all local  body elections,  including to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), together as an alliance. Meanwhile, an area of Congress, including Leader of Resistance Ravi Raja and former Mumbai unit chief Sanjay Nirupam, have been pressing for battling the civic surveys freely. As of late, in an meeting with H K Patil, party in-charge of Maharashtra, the Congress leaders said that they ought to battle the decisions alone in order to keep its voter base in the city. Be that as it may, they were snubbed by senior pioneers, including state unit chief Balasaheb Thorat and official president of Mumbai unit Eknath Gaikwad, who said the party will join hands with Shiv Sena.

 

Whereas in the case of NCP, the party anticipates spreading its wings by aligning with Shiv Sena in the coming polls. As per NCP pioneers, seat-sharing would not be a problem for three parties if all amicably choose to come together to keep the BJP out of power. The Congress and NCP can battle 75 and 20 seats and go for a better strike rate. There can be another turn in the story as there are feelers that BJP may attempt to forge collusion with the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for the civic polls in Mumbai. On the opposite, a few BJP leaders said that their party would advantage more if the MNS battles autonomously because it will damage the Shiv Sena. Experts say that if the three-party union chooses to come together, a solid battle by the MVA will offer assistance enrapture, anti-BJP voters.
