Mumbai getting reduced water supply, allege corporators

BMC corporators from various areas, including Bhandup and Bandra said that they have been getting complaints from  residents about reduced water supply from the BMC.
 
However, this was denied by the BMC officials who said there has been no cut in water supply, adding that a power cut in one of the complexes from where water is supplied and a underground leakage in K West ward was responsible for the reduced supply.
 
Bandra corporator Asif Zakaria, said that the water pressure has been low since past fortnight and he was told at the ward office that a 10% cut has been imposed, but the corporator was not informed about it. With hardly any rainfall in the month of July, the water level in the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai have been dropping.
 
 
Rais Shaikh, the Samajwadi party leader in the BMC demanded additional water supply to areas having high muslim population on account of Eid, triggering a ruckus in the House.
 
However, Manoj Kotak, the BJP leader in the civic body said it wasn’t a fair demand considering the dropping water levels in the city lakes.
