The press conference of the Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti (VRAS) who were seeking for statehood of Vidarbha in Mumbai Press Club, was disrupted by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists. MNS is strongly opposed to any division of Maharashtra.

BMC’s Sandeep Deshpande alongwith a dozen other MNS activists barged in the conference raising slogans in favour of united Maharashtra.

“We will never tolerate the creation of a separate Vidarbha. We believe in Akhand (united) Maharashtra. We will fight for Akhand Maharashtra in which ever way we can and would do whatever it takes to keep our state united,” Deshpande said.

The MNS activists ordered the VRAS leaders Wamanrao Chatap and Shrinivas Khandewale to stop the conference and also threw the microphones off the podium. This went on for 10-15 minutes until the police arrived. Following this, the VRAS leaders continued their conference which was put on hold due to the interruption. Addressing the conference Chatap said, “As part of the agitation there will be a session of moot assembly of separate Vidarbha which will be held on October 3 and October 4 and it will pass the budget of the separate Vidarbha.”

Chatap also added that there will be numerous rallies held demanding separate statehood for Vidharbha starting with the one in Nagpur on December 5 i.e. the first day of the winter session of the state assembly. “This will be followed by a mass contact program in colleges, schools and other public places from December 6 to December 31creating awareness about the need for separate Vidarbha,” he added.
