Following a feud between BJP MLA Ashish Shelar and Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, the Mayor has received a letter threatening his life. According to the investigation, the letter also used filthy language to disparage the mayor. The mayor stated that she will file a formal complaint.

In a charge filed against him for allegedly making inappropriate statements about Mumbai Mayor, Maharashtra BJP MLA Ashish Shelar was detained. Later, he was released on bail. Shelar was arrested for reportedly criticizing Pednekar for visiting the site of a cylinder bomb after 72 hours during a press conference.

Pednekar had submitted a letter to the Home Minister, requesting that Shelar be prosecuted for using the phrase "sleeping." BJP leader Ashish Shelar filed a petition in the Bombay High Court on Thursday, a day after he was charged with insulting the modesty of Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar. The MLA claims that the ruling parties in Maharashtra blew his usage of a basic Marathi term out of proportion.

Shelar has filed a motion with counsel Faiz Merchant to get the FIR filed against him at Marine Drive police station quashed. He claims that at his press conference, he was merely criticizing the BMC authorities and that he had no intention of insulting or outraging the modesty of Pednekar or any other woman or girl.

Shelar has expressed his displeasure with the FIR, claiming that it is the result of "brainstorming and imagination of the ruling party's officials" to wrongly implicate him in the issue. "The FIR is false, vexatious, frivolous, contrived, and a product of abuse of the legal process," the plea continues. The petition will most likely be heard within the next several days.
