Rupali Chakankar, the Chairwoman of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW), spoke out against what she dubbed "politics" surrounding the death of celebrity manager Disha Salian on Tuesday. Chakankar told journalists in this city, "It is quite sad that politics is being played over a woman's death (Salian). The primary investigation into the issue has already been completed by the Malwani police, and we are now awaiting their findings.
The outcome of the report will determine the next steps." She added it's regrettable that a few people are attempting to discredit Salian, who handled publicity for late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput for a brief period. Salian's family said earlier in the day that lawmakers are slandering her name by raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death in 2020.
Narayan Rane, a Union Minister and
BJP leader had given a press conference a few days prior, alleging foul play in Salian's death.
The MSCW sent a notice to the Mumbai police on Monday in response to Rane's claim, requiring them to file a response within the next two days.
The truth of Salian's death, according to Maharashtra BJP President Chandrakant Patil, will be revealed after March 7. On June 8, 2020, Salian, 28, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a high-rise building in suburban Malad, six days before Rajput, 34, was discovered hanged in his Bandra flat. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar and a member of the MSCW paid a visit to the Salian family's home in Dadar, central Mumbai, on Tuesday.
