Mumbai: Sanjay Nirupam, former chairman of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee, who was dismissed following his resignation in March 2019, has been reinstated by the high command. Nirupam, who was sent to Bihar to coordinate elections, was appointed to the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) parliamentary board on Friday.
Nirupam will play a key role in the nomination process for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections in 2022 and for other municipal and local body elections. Along with Nirupam, former MP Eknath Gaikwad and former head of the city unit Janardan Chandurkar have been appointed to the MPCC Parliamentary Board.
The high command said that Nirupam was neglecting the activity of the Mumbai city unit, while the Congress was not going alone, not to go it alone and play a second lesson in several elections to the chorus, the high command said. This is happening despite the Congress's shared strength with the Shiv Sena and NCP in the grand alliance government.
