There has been a lot of defection from MNS, Congress and NCP over to BJP and Sena in the past month or so, suggesting that the Sena-BJP are favourites to sweep the upcoming civic body polls.
The Shiv Sena and BJP’s ranks have swelled just months before the municipal elections as corporators, functionaries and other important figures make a hurried exit from outof-power parties to join the two camps that are expected to win most seats. Of the two, the Sena seems to have benefitted the most. On Thursday, around a dozen leaders from the state’s influential Gujarati community will join the party.
Infact, many people who had earlier quit the
BJP or the Sena, have now returned to the fold owing to the growing perception that the two parties will eventually form the alliance.
The MNS has been racked by high-profile defections. On Sunday, MNS general secretary Sanjay Ghadi, from Dahisar, joined the Sena. Earlier, MNS corporators Ishwar Tayade (Chandivali) and Geeta Chavan (Khira Nagar, Santacruz) had left the party.
Shantaram Patil (Govandi) of the Samajwadi Party, Savita Pawar (Tungve Village, Chandivali) of the NCP and independent Vijay Tandel (Chunabhatti) also crossed over to the Sena. The
Congress, too, was left stunned when threeterm corporator Bhomsingh Rathod became an ally of Uddhav last month.
On Thursday, prominent faces from the Gujarati community Hemraj Shah, Bhargav Patel, Rajesh Doshi, Jayanti Modi, Kamlesh Chitroda, Jignesh Bhuta, Tejas Gohil and Dhaval Shah will formally become part of the Sena.
