Local leaders launch health camps to woo slum voters ahead of BMC Polls

With the BMC Polls just round the corner, several corporators are trying to woo the slum voters by organising medical camps and addressing the health concerns in their constituencies. For a month now, camps for cancer screening, diabetes, full medical check-up and eye tests have been lined up to give free health services to voters.
In areas lining Walkeshwar, Babulnath and Banganga, BJP corporator Jyotsna D Mehta has held diabetes screening camps. Every day, medical vans roam once in the morning and evening, in slums and highrises, for a full check-up. “In this month, we will hold a cancer awareness camp to spread awareness about the different cancers affecting both genders. I also a held pediatric camps for children,” she said.
In Shivaji Nagar, a special awareness program has been organised on December 16 by the Ahtesaab Foundation owned by Rais Shaikh wherein they have invited social workers and doctors to raise awareness on personal hygiene, gynaecology and anaemia.
In Malad East, BJP corporator Dr Ram Barot has prepared a report for his voters about his work in the medical field in the last 25 years. In his report, he claims he initiated a campaign against gutkha addiction in 1997 along with Tata Memorial hospital and provided free Hepatitis B vaccination to several kids.
In Andheri West, brochures distributed in each home by MLA Ameet Satam claim that 6,000 people benefited through medical camps in slums and 40 toilets were built in the last two years.
