Following the suspension of DCP Saurabh Tripathi, who was accused of threatening 'angadiyas' in the name of the I-T department, Maharashtra BJP MLA Ashish Shelar wondered on Wednesday if a plot was being formed in the state administrative services to malign the central agency.

In the Assembly, the former Maharashtra minister questioned whether such a plot was being plotted "with someone's sanction" in the state's administrative services. In response, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said he would investigate information and take action if the allegations were true.

Following a complaint by angadiyas or traditional couriers who provide money transfer service to businesspeople for a commission, the Maharashtra government dismissed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Tripathi, who is a sought suspect in an extortion case filed by the Mumbai police.

The accused authorities allegedly extorted money from the angadiyas on many occasions in December by threatening to inform the Income Tax agency about their cash transfers and business activities, according to the lawsuit. He warned angadiyas that the Income Tax Department would raid them and take legal action against them.

"Police personnel are going to extort money from people using the Income Tax Department's name and spreading lies?" Shelar was the one who inquired. Any such conspiracy, according to the opposition legislator, will neither benefit Maharashtra nor the country.
The BJP leader, on the other hand, claimed the government's suspension of Tripathi was "appropriate." Walse Patil, for one, said he was aware of the concerns presented by Shelar in the House.
