Fix potholes to let us face voters: Corporators tell BMC

With an eye on the 2017 BMC Polls, the Corporators of Mumbai have have demanded smooth roads to avoid the ire of citizens during Ganeshotsav. They said that with just a few days left for the Ganpati festival, they want the BMC to spring in action and complete the pothole repair work.
 
The corporators raised concerns over Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) unpreparedness to tackle the hundreds of potholes on roads ahead of Ganeshotsav. They also questioned if any changes have been brought in road construction technology after the scam and further demanded an assurance by the civic body that the potholes will be filled ahead of the festive season.
 
BJP corporator Dilip Patel said that on account of the numerous potholes on the entire Western Express Highway, for motorists driving through it nightmare. “On Wednesday I left the BMC headquaters in Fort at 8pm and reached Goregoan at 11pm. This was only due to the numerous potholes on the roads apart from the traffic. With Ganpati festival coming soon it’s important that the issue is tackled,” said Patel.
 
 
Pravin Chheda, Opposition leader and Congress corporator, said, “The BMC should complete their work and also assure that the new tenders that are issued for new works will be properly supervised so that the problem of potholes is reduced. We are the ones who are answerable for the civic administration’s mistakes.”
 
One of the civic officials requesting anonymity, said, “We are filling potholes on war-footing so that the Ganeshotsav is celebrated smoothly without affecting the idols.”
