The problems of
NCP Minister Nawab Malik are far from ended. In a letter dated March 24, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested documentation from the Joint District Registrar (Mumbai Suburban) regarding details of numerous properties allegedly in the name of Malik and his family members in Kurla, Bandra and Santacruz.
As part of its ongoing inquiry into Malik under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, ED assistant director Niraj Kumar has requested the information. Malik is now detained under the provisions of the PMLA Act. Kumar has asked the joint district registrar to furnish certified copies/documents and other records held by the department proving ownership of the property in question. The ED's action came days after the BJP levelled allegations about properties purchased by Malik and his family in the past.
Malik, his wife Mehjbeen, and their son Faraz are said to own the properties in question. The ED has requested information about Flat No. 6, Gulamnabi Manil in
Santacruz West and Flat No. 501, Bandra Vastu in
Bandra West, both of which are allegedly held by Malik's son Faraz. ED also demanded information on flats B-03, C-2, C-12, and G-8 at Noor Manzil in Kurla West, which were allegedly registered in Malik's wife Mehjbeen's name. ED has also requested information about Flats B-03, C-2, C-12, and G-8 at Noor Manzil in Kurla West, which are held by Malik. "Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, requires the above information," Kumar explained.
The ED's letter came after it inspected the Gorawala property in Kurla, Mumbai's suburb, last week in connection with the money laundering case involving Malik and Haseena Parmar, fugitive Dawood Ibrahim's sister. ED had surveyed the region to determine the identities of the original tenants living in the compound as well as renters introduced by Malik after he purchased the land from Parkar. Malik allegedly recruited bogus tenants to lower the land's register value, according to the ED.
