Sanjay Raut applied for bail in a money laundering case, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in its closing statement to a special court on Monday, stated that the Shiv Sena politician had attended meetings about it and showed a keen interest in the Patra Chawl project in Goregaon. The issue involves suspected money laundering involving more than Rs. 1039 crores in the Patra Chawl redevelopment project in Goregaon. Rakesh Wadhawan, Sarang Wadhawan, and Pravin Raut are the three defendants in the lawsuit; they are all directors of Guru Ashish Constructions Pvt. Ltd., the company in charge of the project.

Early in August, the organisation detained Raut. The ED claimed that through a frontman and confidant named Pravin Raut, he was implicated in irregularities in the reconstruction project and had taken 3.6 crores rupees in "proceeds of crimes" from around 112 crores rupees in benefits that Raut obtained. Pravin Raut was merely a name. Sanjay Raut was working covertly through this proxy, according to Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, who represented the agency in the closing arguments. He added that Sanjay Raut attended a meeting and actively participated in the project and that Pravin Raut actively participated in liaison work.

The bail arguments made by Raut's attorney included an explanation of 1.06 crores of the 3.3 crores of allegedly unlawful money. He stated that some of it came from a loan his wife received from friends that they later paid back. On Monday, the ED informed the court that the remaining sum of more than Rs. 2 crore is unaccounted for.
