A chunk of population in the city today lives in slums, and hygiene is one of the major problems in these areas. Corporators from various political parties have raised the issue of these unhygienic conditions and shortage of public toilets across Mumbai.

The civic body had received about Rs.8 crore a few months ago from the central government under the ‘Swacch Bharat’ campaign of the central government.

Samajwadi party  corporator Ashraf Azmi raised the issue saying that there are minimal facilities available in the public toilets and most public toilets are in dilapidated condition. BJP corporator Vinod Shelar agreed and said “there has not been any change in the hygienic conditions in the slums.”
