Maharashtra Congress Party criticised Twitter’s move to block its leaders handles
After Twitter, India blocked the handles of some members of the Maharashtra Congress they condemned this move as the pressure from the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). The leaders also included the Congress Maharashtra unit and state revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat.

The allegation was made by Balasaheb Thorat that as they were supporting their Congress leader Rahul Gandhi their Twitter handles were blocked. He further stated that this step was made to suppress the fundamental right of freedom to expression. “As I supported Rahul Ji’s stand on rape victim of Delhi my Twitter handle has been blocked, after they blocked the Twitter handle of Rahul Ji they blocked handles of many other leaders including me.

Whatever steps are being taken by us are in the interest of the common people and we have never been involved in any anti-national activities. Is it a crime if we are standing in support of a rape victim?” question Thorat. The reason for blocking Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter handle stated by Twitter India was that the leader tweeted a photograph of the family members of a nine-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Delhi.

Twitter India further stated that this tweet by the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has violated its policy. “The voice is being suppressed by the Modi government in the past seven years. Twitter India takes no action against the BJP leader who uses it for divisive, antisocial and hates messages. We would not bow before any such practices,” stated Nana Patole.
