The residents of rehabilitation and housing projects look for action as Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, assumes leadership of the housing ministry portfolio. There may be some much-needed progress made on housing and redevelopment projects like those in Dharavi, Patra Chawl, Sewri and Bombay Development Directorate Chawl, MHADA Mumbai Lottery Houses, SRA Projects, and Cess Buildings.
SVR Srinivas, IAS, who also oversees the MMRDA office and is in charge of the Dharavi reconstruction project, and Fadnavis recently had a review meeting before taking over. Tenants of buildings that required the Center's approval for redevelopment have high expectations from the minister because Fadnavis and the Center enjoy good connections.
Juhu resident Bhupendra Lakdawala, 72, stated, "It is well known that Fadnavis accepted the Deputy CM post at PM Narendra Modi's direction. In such a case, he ought to give our case first priority. We have very high hopes from him that he would be able to allay our worries about redevelopment, which is currently prohibited by the military signalling station buffer zone.
Mansingh Rane, a resident of Sewri BDD Chawl, stated, "Now that the
BJP is in control at both the federal and state levels, we have high hopes from the government for our reconstruction project. Additionally,
BMC elections will shortly be held as well.
