BMC, to spend 1.3 crores for mgmt. of its social media accounts, ahead of the BMC elections
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) faced criticism for suffering a cost of around Rs 2 crore a year for running its social media accounts, after which the civic body on Tuesday floated tenders for the appointment of a new agency to spend Rs 1.3 crore a year on it which will be helping and directed to manage the public image of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Soon after this decision was made by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a series of criticism against the civic body and slammed them stating that this action by them has come to promote the Shiv Sena ruling in Maharashtra as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections approach in 2022.

This is not the first time that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is spending funds to manage its reputation, from the last three years the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been doing it to keep up the popular perceptions about itself. Regardless of lessening its revenues, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gave a contract of Rs 5.9 crore to S2 Infotech to look after its 34 Twitter handles from July 2019 to July 2022, the contract didn’t even invite any type of tenders.

Noticing this the MLAs and Corporators all over the parties in the state of Maharashtra had attacked the decision of the civic body spending an amount of Rs 2 crore on tweets and claimed that the reach and impact of @mybmc and all the Twitter accounts cannot be measured but if we see the Twitter accounts of Mumbai Police, it has only two accounts to handle the problems faced by citizens.

“The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) must get an audit done, if we talk about the reputation of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), it has already been washed away by the rains in the city. This agency built for maintaining reputation is nothing but a factory, where lies are spread and false hopes are made ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections,” stated Bharatiya Janata Corporator (BJP) Vinod Mishra.
