Shiv Sena corporator Sanjana Mungekar (ward no. 160) has made a demand that the civic body should provide coffins free of cost to Christians for the funeral of dead bodies.

However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has turned down the demand saying that the burial charges in the Christian crematoriums have already been waived off

In a notice of motion tabled before the civic general body meeting, Mungekar said, “The BMC has made the arrangements for people to perform last rites on the dead bodies in crematoriums according to their religions. However, there are some poor Christians who cannot afford the charges of coffin used to keep the dead bodies during the funeral.”
