The Shiv Sena’s strong network of shakhas across 227 wards in Mumbai remains a big challenge for the BJP, which has already rolled out a roadmap for elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2017.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be BJP’s mascot as the party is trying to use development plank to counter Shiv Sena’s dominance for the BMC polls. But it remains a daunting task to give a tough fight to Sena in every ward.

Therefore, the BJP state unit and the city unit are together working together to take on the Sena in Mumbai.

The BJP wants to capitalise on the mega projects undertaken in Mumbai in the last 18 months since the party came to power in the state with Shiv Sena as an ally.
