Worli would be home to an international tourism complex and Mumbai's second aquarium. At a cost of Rs 1,000 crore, the sea-facing project would be built on a 14.55-acre tract of land adjacent to the Worli dairy. The property is direct across from the Mumbai Coastal Road, which is set to open in December 2023. In March 2020, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar declared this in his budget, but the epidemic struck soon after.
The Maharashtra government, however, issued a notification during the recently concluded budget session of the legislature for the transfer of land currently in the possession of the dairy development department to the revenue department, which will then transfer it to the urban development department for the project. The Worli dairy and the Dairy Development Commissioner's office will be relocated to Aarey Colony as a result.
The government notice intends to eliminate procedural inconsistencies and, as a result, expedite the project. It was released in the run-up to the
upcoming elections for the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, in which the
Shiv Sena intends to project a slew of development projects completed over the last five years as well as upcoming projects, such as the proposed international tourist complex and aquarium.
"The projected complex is being designed to attract tourists, both local and international," a dairy development official told The Free Press Journal. The urban development and tourism development agencies will select what the proposed complex will host, in cooperation with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The aquarium, similar to those in Dubai, Singapore, and other nations, will be the main attraction, with additional connected locations.
"Land will be transferred to urban development after the dairy development department returns it to the revenue department. The property will eventually be given to the BMC for the construction of a tourist facility and aquarium." Currently, the Taraporevala Aquarium on Marine Drive in Mumbai is home to marine and freshwater fish and underwater wildlife including turtles, moray eels, and other coral fish from Lakshadweep Island, according to him.
The government notification was issued by N.B Marale, deputy secretary of the dairy development department, who stated that the dairy development commissioner had been asked to appoint an agency to transfer the Worli dairy equipment to Aarey Colony and to complete the land transfer process as soon as possible.
