As the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are around the corner the MSRTC staff went on strike stating that they want a merger with the state. They stated that they wanted BEST to merge with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
“BEST is a very important part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). When regarding this there were protests earlier, the Shiv Sena had promised to fast track the merger of BEST and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This is a request to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray to keep the promise their party had made earlier,” stated SS
Nalawade, the General Secretary of BEST Jagrut Kamgar Sanghatana.
He further stated that BEST is already running into losses, back before 2003 the losses of transportation were compensated by the power wing. After the year 2003 BEST lost its dominance in the city of Mumbai, now this issue can only be resolved if BEST and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) merge.
Further, he also highlighted that even the tax authorities look at it as one unit as BEST and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have a common PAN Card. He reminded the Sena of the earlier promise it had done while giving assurance that they may be merged soon.
They demanded Shiv Sena to give them in writing and assure them that the BEST and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be merged, as despite approval on proposals in the year 2017 there have been no movements in the case for four years now.
“If the budget of BEST and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is merged, it will be a great solution to all the financial problems that have been lying, a Memorandum will be sent to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray they had stated that they would do this it seems they have forgotten their promise,” stated attacking
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former BEST Chairman Pravin Chheda.
