The BJP corporators wrote to Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal on Monday, citing problems at several Covid care centres and hospitals and urging the civic administration to address them. On December 7, a team of BJP corporators inspected various Covid-19 facilities and municipal hospitals and made thorough observations regarding the present lacunae at these medical sites, according to BJP Corporator Vinod Mishra from ward no 43.

The Malad Jumbo Covid Center, which has a capacity of 2200 beds, lacks proper medical equipment, according to Mishra, and fire audits are not in place. The BJP delegation noticed no patients being admitted to the Kandarpada ICU Center and no accountable employees being stationed there to respond to any difficulties.

Furthermore, the installation of the Medical Oxygen Plants was incompatible with the Covid Center's fire safety regulations.
The medical oxygen generating plants at the Harilal Bhagwati Hospital was built atop fire safety pumps, and suitable exhaust outlets were not provided, according to the BJP team. The oxygen-generating shed was not soundproof and, according to MCGM's own rules, breached the hospital's silent zone.

The hospital drains were overflowing and the toilet outlets were not linked to the main sewer lines at Kandivali's Shatabdi Hospital, putting the hospital complex at risk of diseases including dengue and malaria. The oxygen plants were only partially operational, and there were no water purifiers installed, thus hospital patients were forced to drink tanker water.

The BJP team observed at the Nesco Jumbo Covid Center that a vigilance team is needed to verify deviations from tender requirements for medical oxygen plants that are being commissioned. Furthermore, at the time of the inspection, the fire safety audit results were unavailable.
