The BMC has chosen to make desilting more open by upgrading its website with all relevant information. Before the monsoon this year, the civic council has set a goal of removing 9,07,000 tonnes of silt from all of the nullahs. "Curious individuals can watch live updates about desilting work on the website and their mobile phones," stated Ullhas Mahale, Deputy Commissioner, Basic Infrastructure.
According to BMC
, 45 percent of the desilting work has been completed, and the remaining work will be completed by May 15. It has approved six large nullah bids and seventeen small nullah proposals totaling Rs 162 crores. The work was delayed by seven days this year, after which BJP
MLA Ashish Shelar and corporators visited numerous nullahs and raised concerns about the work being completed by May 31.
Following that, the BMC commissioner evaluated the job and instructed the contractor to work in two shifts, use double machinery, and finish pre-monsoon desilting work by May 15. He also formed teams to oversee the continuing project. BMC has supplied a link to the webpage (https://swd.mcgm.gov.in/wms2022) to answer citizens' questions.
