Maharashtra Government declares IT award in Rajeev Gandhi’s name after Centre rename Khel Ratna
After the announcement of renaming the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to Major Dhyan Chand by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of Maharashtra with the Congress coalition declared an award for IT excellence in the name of the former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi.  
 
To praise the excellence in the IT, sector the Maharashtra Government on Tuesday declared a new award named Rajiv Gandhi. This award will be given on August 20 every year, to celebrate the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. “I feel proud as the Minister of State of IT, Maharashtra that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Government has announced an award in the name of Shri. Rajiv Gandhi Ji to motivate organizations excellent performance in the IT sector in the State of Maharashtra,” he tweeted. 
 
In the tweet, Patil stated that the award will be a tribute to Rajiv Gandhi’s contribution to the field of technology. “The award will be an eternal tribute to Late Shri Rajiv Ji for his pioneering work in the technology sector in India.” The decision was criticized by the Netizens as they took on Twitter and attacked the state government for naming another award in the name of Gandhi’s.
 
In the coalition of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Shiv Sena party was not happy with the decision of the Centre government to rename the Khel Ratna Award after legendary player Major Dhyan Chand. The mouthpiece of the Shiv Sena party Saamna alleged the centre government saying that it wasn’t the wish of the people but a mere political game.  When the Shiv Sena was criticized for Rajeev Gandhi’s contribution to name an award after him the party attacked the centre asking the Prime Minister’s contribution in the field of cricket to have a stadium named after him.
