After Deonar fires, wards set up own waste processing plants

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been forced to re-look at its policy of waste disposal, following multiple fires at Deonar. The BMC is adding 35 dry waste segregation sites to the existing 32 in the city, some Mumbai corporators have taken initiatives such as setting up processing plants, specifically for their wards.
Trushna Vishwasrao, Shiv Sena corporator from wadala and many corporators, have suggested that the waste generated be processed in the ward itself, instead of being sent to the three overburdened dumping yards at Deonar, Mulund and Kanjurmarg.
The assistant municipal commissioner (AC) of G North ward, Ramakant Biradar, is planning to set up a processing plant for wet and dry waste on a 35-acre civic-owned plot in Dharavi. Similar plans are made by AC Sharad Ughade in H-West ward. Two segregation centres are being set up in the area, one of which will have a processing plant for wet waste too.
