The youth wing of the Shiv Sena have started wooing young voters for the upcoming BMC Polls. The Shiv Sena has started promising younger voters pet clinics, start-up incubators and football arenas, among other things. ‘Shiv Sena 2.0’, as it has been termed by political observers, is the party’s new approach to make inroads in constituencies where it has so far proven unpopular.

Traditional poll promises of better roads, good drains, garbage collection and water supply are making way for New Age services likes pet parks, street art galleries, street carnivals, shopping-only streets and more. While conventional issues like roads, hospitals and drains will still be taken up by senior leaders, innovative plans like start-up incubators and pet parks will be pitched by the party’s youth wing, Yuva Sena, under the leadership of Aaditya Thackeray.

The Yuva Sena functionary said that many parties, including the BJP and Congress, talked about being youthfriendly all the time but rarely ever made any effort to actually follow through with their promises.

“Many upscale localities have been dominated by the BJP or the Congress. The Sena leadership has decided to change its approach and reach out to voters in such areas. Aadityaji has taken up issues that are current and can transform the city into a livelier and more vibrant place for youngsters. We have asked our candidates for the elections to spread our work and connect with voters as well,” the functionary said.

The party is keen on convincing voters in areas such as Colaba, Cuffee Parade, Malabar Hill, Bandra, Juhu and Andheri (W). “These issues are over and above our regular projects like building play grounds, handling water supply, good roads etc. We are getting a lot of response from youngsters especially in localities like Bandra (West),” said Rahul Kanal, a Yuva Sena activist.
